MegaFon has no plans to further cut prices in intra-net roaming
MOSCOW, Mar 15 (PRIME) -- MegaFon, one of Russia’s biggest mobile operators, will not cut prices in intra-network roaming, applied when a carrier uses different tariffs in different regions, further despite the antitrust service’s pressure, the operator’s Chief Operating Officer Anna Serebryanikova said on Thursday at a news conference.
“As to intra-network roaming, it’s now fiction. It does not exist anymore as is. Of course, there are extra payments for long-distance calls in the mobile segment. We’ve halved the prices of call termination, but the Federal Antimonopoly Service found it insufficient. We cannot cut prices further,” Serebryanikova said.
“We’ve calculated our margins and costs in all possible ways and concluded that we cannot go lower than the offer we’ve made to the Federal Antimonopoly Service.
The antitrust watchdog earlier warned the country’s leading operators to eliminate a groundless difference in tariffs for subscribers outside the home region. Earlier in March, the authority opened cases against MegaFon and its archrival MTS after it checked their reports on the abolition of intra-network roaming.
